Carmina Burana by Carl Orff – in a magical, powerful and deeply immersive interpretation beneath the surface of the earth. The journey begins above ground.Step by step, the audience is guided downward – away from the light, away from everyday life – and into the rock. In Zacharias Eric Vindbacke’s scenic interpretation, this physical descent is mirrored by a spiritual and existential journey inspired by Dante’s Inferno: through layers of human desire, fate, power and passion, toward the innermost core of both music and mountain.Eighty meters underground, inside a decommissioned iron ore mine, the Cathedral of Iron Ore reveals itself – a monumental subterranean performance space where time, stone, fire, water and sound merge beside a mirror-like underground lake. Here, Lunae Chamber Choir, under the direction of Bengt Ollén, performs Carl Orff’s monumental work in an environment that amplifies every note, every breath, every emotion. The experience is further intensified by flames and showering sparks from fire dancers of Aurora Fire Company, where light and darkness constantly collide – just as they do within the music itself. The divine acoustics of the mountain create a soundscape impossible to reproduce above ground. Voices carry, hover and resonate against the rock walls – as if the music has always belonged here. Audience responses from previous performances describe the experience as world-class.You have heard Carmina Burana in films, trailers and some of popular culture’s most iconic moments. But you have never experienced it like this.Deep beneath the surface, in the Cathedral of Iron Ore, Carmina Burana becomes more than a concert. It becomes a total experience in another world – where fate, passion, power and human longing meet iron ore, darkness, light, fire and water.
